Manchester United: Ex-City star could be perfect signing
The news that Michael Carrick could be out for a month has left many believing that Manchester United really need to add another midfielder in the January transfer window.
With the signing of Juan Mata expected in the next day United have done superbly well to add to the squad so far in January. But most still think that Manchester United will need to buy an energetic and dynamic midfielder either now or in the summer. Ideally David Moyes will bring someone in in January to improve Uniteds chances of getting into the Champions League places come May.
Paul Pogba has been mentioned as a possible signing and he would be ideal for Manchester United. But we very much doubt that deal will get done in the time remaining in January. Manchester United need a quick fix – someone who can add presence to the Manchester United midfield in the short term. Because, without Carrick, the middle of the park generally gets overrun by the opposition.
We think that David Moyes is right to generally look at younger players. People with 8 to 10 years left in the tank and who haven’t yet reached the top of their game. But, for the short-term, what about a punt on 29-year-old Nigel De Jong?
There have been rumours over the last few days that the underrated midfielder might be of interest to Liverpool. Whether or not Liverpool are interested in signing the player it does suggest that he could be on the market. He’s certainly not past his sell-by date yet and we think that he was an excellent player for Manchester City. He’s not someone who is necessarily going to set up loads of attacks but someone who makes the midfield more solid.
With time running out on the January transfer window David Moyes might well have another major signing lined up. But, if there is nothing in the pipeline, perhaps he should turn his attention to the excellent Nigel De Jong.
Let’s have a look at the lad in action. Manchester United fans – do you think that this would be a good medium-term signing or would you rather wait for top quality to become available, a la Mata?
