Manchester United: Worldie wants transfer – report

Now that Louis van Gaal is in the hot seat at Manchester United, after his World Cup expedition, we think it should become clear pretty soon about exactly who Manchester United are going to sign this summer.

There’s been lots of speculation surrounding defenders and midfielders as Manchester United look to address the loss of Vidic, Ferdinand and, potentially, Patrice Evra.

But whether Manchester United are to focus any of the kitty on another striker at this point is arguable.

But one player has been regularly linked and reports this week suggest that he has instructed his agents to set up a move to the Premier League for him.

At 27 years of age Edinson Cavani is a fantastic player and, even though he had a fairly quiet World Cup we think that his class is permanent.

We can definitely see him in The Premier League this season with Chelsea also on the lookout for more strikers. But if the fee is around £40 million Manchester United may make a move for the player who guarantees to bring goals and dynamism. Much more than that and United may feel that the money is better spent on other departments.

If the clubs are able to do a deal that suits Cavani then perhaps LvG will shoehorn his three main men – Rooney, RvP and Cavani – into one team.

But those comments made by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho when asked why he hadn’t signed a striker in the winter window keep ringing in our ears:

For many people, you and our fans, people don’t understand why we didn’t do anything. But in the summer you will understand why we didn’t do anything.”

If the Chelsea boss had Cavani in mind with these words then we think that Chelsea may be at the head of the queue in this one. That said, he is similar in many ways to new signing Diego Costa – if somewhat superior.

Let’s have a look at the lad in action. Manchester United fans: should Cavani be a priority for the club this summer?
