Top target latest

Manchester United boss David Moyes has said that he won’t fall into the trap of panic buying. Only the very best players will be signed by Manchester United according to the head honcho. On signing Juan Mata last month he said:

“The message this sends is that we’re going for all the best players in the world at Manchester United and Juan is one of those players,’’

It’s a noble sentiment and Manchester United certainly don’t want to start bringing in average players like Liverpool did at the end of their dominant period in the early 90s.

Two players who have been constantly linked to Manchester United certainly fall into the category of ‘top’ talents. There have been reports in the media about both in the last 24 hours.

Luke Shaw

ESPN and The Daily Mirror have embellished the story which came out in January about Manchester United actually tabling an offer for Southampton wonder kid Luke Shaw. They reckon that the bid was for £22.5m and that it’s still on the table, as far as Manchester United are concerned.

Manchester United are still hopeful of signing Southampton’s Luke Shaw this summer, after sources close to the south coast club told ESPN that the bid from Old Trafford for the left-back last month “remains on the table.”

The Daily Mirror reported that United had lodged a £22.5 million bid for Shaw on January 24, with ESPN sources confirming an offer had been received from the reigning Premier League champions.

Toni Kroos

The Manchester United boss was in London on Wednesday evening to witness Bayern Munich’s win against Arsenal. With Manchester United not due to play Arsenal in a domestic match again this season, perhaps he was assessing the teams in terms of potential Champions League opposition. Or perhaps he was scouting the sensational Toni Kroos.

Kross had the sort of outstanding game that would surely have the Bayern top brass rushing for their chequebooks. Kroos is at loggerheads with the German giants over a new contract and Manchester United are said to be keen. On this form, he would be hard to prise from Bayern. But they do have an embarrassment of riches in the middle of the park. This guy would be an absolute sensation at Manchester United.
