Manchester United: Could this be the surprise addition of the summer?
Hatem Ben Arfa looks as if he may leave Newcastle this summer. It’s been a strange time for him at the club – he is, at once, one of the most skilful players in the squad and a peripheral figure in the team.
Nevertheless Alan Pardew sees him at close quarters and clearly doesn’t believe that he has the blend of qualities required to be a regular starter.
But soccersweep believes that he would make a really good signing for a big club in The Premier League this summer. And it has been reported that he’s on the verge at Newcastle.
Hatem Ben Arfa may have played his last game for Newcastle United.
The French international is heading for the exit at St James’ Park after another row with manager Alan Pardew – and some of his United teammates.
You might argue that if he’s not good enough for Newcastle then he’s not good enough for Manchester United or Liverpool.
But like Mata at Chelsea, certain players just don’t thrive in certain systems, however good.
What Ben Arfa does have is superb feet and a mercurial manner on the pitch. He always looks like he could make something happen – even in the tightest games – a bit like Manchester United’s Nani but with more end product.
Although he may not be the stellar addition that Manchester United fans crave it could be an enterprising addition to a squad which will see many leave this summer.
Manchester United will need to replace those departures and, at perhaps £8-10m, Ben Arfa could add quality at a decent price.
Manchester United will want to add pace to their squad but also better service from wide areas, than that which is currently being provided by Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia or Nani himself. They could do a lot worse than the 27 year old.
Let’s have a look at him in action.
