Manchester United: Chelsea holding up Mata deal – report

Deal held up – report

Manchester United has been waiting for days now for the official news of the transfer of Chelsea star Juan Mata to Old Trafford. After so many false dawns in the transfer market over the last couple of years this development will make the fans particularly anxious.

Many, for example, were already celebrating Thiago Alcantara to Manchester United when news broke that he had instead gone to Bayern Munich. Lucas Moura looked nailed on for Old Trafford until the last minute super bid by PSG stole him away.

RvP aside, it’s fair to say that Manchester United’s transfer business hasn’t gone smoothly over the last few years.

The Telegraph says this morning that Mata is becoming increasingly frustrated with Chelsea holding up the deal to Manchester United.

Juan Mata was waiting on Thursday night for Chelsea to formally sign off his £37 million transfer to Manchester United after growing increasingly frustrated with the club’s failure to sanction his departure for a medical at Old Trafford.

Despite agreeing a four-and-a-half year contract worth £150,000-a-week at United, Mata remained in London on Thursday due to Chelsea’s refusal to complete the transfer agreement with the Premier League champions.

But with Chelsea delaying Mata’s departure until they had completed the signing of FC Basel’s Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah, United were unable to proceed with the medical examination in Manchester.

It appears that the Salah deal is almost complete so that shouldn’t be a reason to hold up the deal for much longer. Everyone around Manchester United is hoping that, in the next few hours, the player will be gracing Old Trafford.

Nevertheless with so many farces (Herrera), not quotes (Silva, Villa), and nearlys (Moura, Sneijder, Alcantara) in the transfer market over the last few years Manchester United fans will want to see the player the kit, smiling his chops off for the cameras, before they believe that it’s actually true.

Manchester United fans, are you still completely confident that this deal is going through?
