Manchester United: Striker doesn’t want to move for now

Louis-van-gaal2

Decent but not vital

Based on soccersweep’s regular assertion that there is seldom smoke without fire in the transfer market, Manchester United would appear to be interested in taking Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich in the close season.

If Louis van Gaal does rock up at Manchester United, as is being suggested, he’s going to want to sculpt a whole new 11 to play his preferred system.

But however much deadwood you might believe there is at Manchester United right now you would surely imagine that the places of Wayne Rooney and Louis’s best mate Robin van Persie are secure.

However different Van Gaal’s opinions may be from his predecessors it is difficult to envisage Rooney not being seen as a vital cog in the Manchester United machine by anyone.

So the notion of Thomas Muller coming into the club may leave some feeling a little confused. Muller can play wide or as an attacking midfielder but he seems to do his best work up front. In our view, he doesn’t have the vision to be the answer for United in midfield, nor does he have the raw pace to noticeably improve Manchester United out wide.

Muller is a decent player with a very good goal scoring record – 25 goals this season – but Manchester United surely need to strengthen other areas first; namely down the flanks, with more conventional, pacey wide men, and in the engine room.

If the player had superb pace you could understand the rumour as he might add another dimension to Manchester United’s current attack. A strike force which is deadly without being demons of speed.

But groundspeed is not among Muller’s greatest virtues so the reported pursuit of the player seems like a bit of an odd one.

Nevertheless The Daily Mail reckons that van Gaal wants to splurge £37 million of Manchester United’s hard earned on the player.

But the best part is that, thankfully, the player himself has poo-pooed the idea of joining Manchester United. He said:

‘I didn’t make these rumours up myself, so I don’t particularly want to comment on them too much, but I’m definitely not about to jump ship at Bayern,’ said the 24-year-old, ‘That said, I can’t make any guarantees (that I’ll stay at the club) for all time.’

Manchester United have far too many square pegs in round holes as things stand – they certainly do not need another.

Let’s see him in action all the same . Manchester United fans: is Muller worth the money or would he further imbalance the squad?

Thomas muller is not the problems of man utd, the problems is wide man, defensive midfield & attacking midfield.
    That’s w. Carvalho, t. Kroos & m. Reus.
