Manchester United: Are Moyes’ signings champs or chumps?

Does David Moyes buy Champs or Chumps?

With the transfer window upon us Manchester United fans will be highly keen to see what sort of business can be done for a team in serious and immediate need of inspiration.

Despite dropping a clanger with the extremely expensive signing of Marouane Fellaini it would be harsh to judge David Moyes’ talent-spotting acumen on this one deal.

So how did he fare in terms of transfers at Everton? We take a look to see if Manchester United can expect some top additions to the team in January.

The list shows that there were some expensive mistakes and more misses than hits, in our opinion, with an especially bad period of signings around 2011 – this may have to do with a comparatively small budget at that time.

But Moyes brought in many players who proved to be a success for Everton – including several who had little to no profile in the game on arrival. He may be operating in a different market with Manchester United but, in our opinion, Moyes’ history of signings on Merseyside bodes fairly well for his transfer business at Manchester United. He may not have got it right every time but he bought in enough gems on a limited budget to prove that he has an eye for a player.
