Great Business

Manchester United fans may argue that Angel di Maria is by far and away the best business of the summer so far.

It’s an easy argument to make because the Argentine will provide the incision and pace that Manchester United are so sorely lacking right now.

But, in our view, the amount a mediocre players that get game time at Manchester United right now is just as big an issue.

Six or seven years ago Tom Cleverley wouldn’t have got anywhere near the first team but now, due to injuries, he still gets minutes even though he seems to get worse with every game.

He simply isn’t of the requisite quality to play for Manchester United.

Misplaced passes, skied shots, unforced errors and general anonymity in games which you simply can’t afford from your central midfielders at Manchester United.

So, at this point, we think that it’s just as important to get rid of the deadwood as it is to bring in the new players.

To that end, if Tom Cleverley does move to Aston Villa, Valencia or Everton then it’ll be the best bit of Manchester United business this summer as far as we’re concerned. A move to get rid of the rot which is bringing down the standards at Manchester United. The Telegraph says:

Manchester United accept £8m bid for Tom Cleverley as Paul Lambert prepares for talks with Fabian Delph

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert closes in on a move for United midfielder and is ready to open contract talks with Fabian Delph

..and Sky reported:

Valencia have made a bid to sign Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley, according to Sky sources.

It’s a deal that needs to happen. Manchester United fans: Are we agreed on this one?
