Manchester United: £52m to seal the business – reports

The Theatre Of Dreams

Lots of cash

Why can’t Manchester United be a bit more like Chelsea in the transfer market?

Under Roman Abramovich Chelsea are so decisive with player deals.

Sometimes Chelsea transfers can be announced even before the rumours have had time to hit the back pages.

Conversely Manchester United seem to make a meal out of most of their transfers and Luke Shaw is the latest example of this.

If Manchester United had offered Southampton a straight £30 million in the middle of May you feel a deal would have been struck there and then.

But negotiations have been protracted and now Ronald Koeman has taken over at The Saints, the price seems to have gone up again. What a pickle. So a no-brainer signing is now in peril. The Daily Mail reports:

Luke Shaw’s £40m price tag rocks Manchester United as Southampton bid to keep England ace

Manchester United believed they had a £30m deal in place for left back
Louis van Gaal wants to make Shaw one of his first signings at United
New Southampton boss Ronald Koeman wants to keep the 18-year-old

Even at £40m Manchester United have to pay the money because they are getting a player who, at 18, can give 15 years of service to the club. So the huge cost would be offset by the longevity of his career.

As for the other £12m, well thats apparently what Arsenal want for Manchester United target Thomas Vermaelen. The Mail again:

Arsenal want £12m for Thomas Vermaelen but Manchester United unwilling to pay after initial bid of around £6m was rejected.

Belgium defender has just one year to run on his deal at the Emirates
He has told pals he wants to move to Old Trafford.

The fact that Vermaelen has injured his knee at The World Cup will do nothing to expedite the deal either.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Manchester United fans: should the club shell out the reported £52 million that it will now require to bring them both to the club?

Untill Woodward leaves united we will not get correct in transfers , he likes dragging things like a woman. I hate his tactics, pack and go away useless chairman. During the time of Gill u could hear united have sinned player before romours . I think he wants pple to know he’s a failure.Kwenda kabisa .

Catch yourself on mate, Bayern Munich would consider 40 mill for David Alaba – who is definatley a far more reliable and world class left back.. Stick £80 mill on the table for reus and hummels grow a set of swingers Woodward out
