Manchester United: 5 things Moyes must do better

Selections – There have been some very dubious ones. He’s dropped Ferdinand, who gave a master class when he came on against Arsenal. But the biggest selection error has been the benching of Manchester United’s best player of the season – Adnan Januzaj. Surely he didn’t buy Juan Mata to replace Januzaj? But the teenager hasn’t started since Mata arrived. Play them both for god’s sake Moyesy! It’s not rocket science.

Formation – What on earth are Manchester United doing with a 4-4-2? They are used to playing with width. But they are also used to having top wingers. They currently don’t. What they do have is three sensational number tens who can all play beautifully behind RvP in an attacking trio. Moyes simply has to start using a 4-2-3-1 if he is to have any chance at home and in Europe. He must also find a place for Shinji Kagawa, who is rotting on the bench despite being one of Manchester United’s best eleven. Furthermore, playing Mata on the right wing of a 4-4-2 is ridiculous.

Man Management – Yes, he has seemingly appeased Wayne Rooney. But too many players look alienated under Moyes. Players like Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra not only deserve huge respect but should also be eased out slowly over a few years rather than as part of sudden wholesale changes. A bit more respect please Moyesy!

Signings – ¬£65m spent so far on Fellaini and Mata. Fergie never spent that much in one summer (although he got close with Hargreaves, Tevez, Nani and Anderson). So far Fellaini hasn’t done the business and Mata is being played out of position. His next signings simply have to be spot on.

Smile – Yes it’s been a tough season for Manchester United and, yes, we know that you are taking it very personally Mr.Moyes. But noone has died. Maybe the odd smile wouldn’t go amiss! Maybe it would improve the sense of unity in the squad to be a bit more jovial?
