3 stars linked to Old Trafford

The papers are awash with stories about who’s going where in January and, while the winter window can be a bit of a damp squib, we think that this one is going to be a really big one.

Any one of 6 clubs can still win the title and this will act as a massive incentive to strengthen mid-season. Of all the hopefuls you would imagine that Manchester United will be most keen to spend and three more players have been linked with the club in the latest news cycle. We run the rule over them:

The Guardian says that Manchester United fancy a Cagliari midfielder…

Radja Nainggolan, the Cagliari midfielder whom Manchester United believe could solve their midfield creativity problems

The Belgian number 4 has played over 100 times for Cagliari (scoring 6 times) and 4 times for Belgium. The 25 year old looks solid but not necessarily the sort of attacking creator that United sorely need.

The same source reports that Manchester United are looking at a promising young talent:

One of the other midfielders whom United are reported to be pursuing is 20-year-old Bruno Zuculini, who currently plays for Racing Club de Avellaneda in Argentina and is also being monitored by Internazionale.

The problem for us is that he’s another defensive midfielder – Moyes surely doesn’t need more of those.

Finally, reports have re-surfaced that Manchester United could bid for Yohan Cabaye. One of the main architects of Newcastle’s defeat of United at Old Trafford last week goodbye is a classy performer. We remain doubtful about whether Cabaye has the dynamism or speed to be a really top addition for Manchester United but it wouldn’t be too difficult to improve this current midfield.
