New man this summer?

Although Manchester City currently have four top strikers in their squad you do get the sense that there could be movement in and out in relation to the forward line this summer.

Each of the four main strikers at Manchester City have had some seriously good performances for the club. But only Sergio Aguero has been a consistently top performer since he joined.

Edin Dzeko has always scored important goals but doesn’t seem to be favoured by Manchester City’s recent managers.

Stevan Jovetic hasn’t really got started at City, due in part to injury, and he has also been linked with interest from other clubs.

And although Alvaro Negredo started last season on fire his form tailed off to a worrying degree in the second half of the campaign.

Reports today suggest that the player could be the subject of a bid from Atletico Madrid this summer and we wouldn’t be completely surprised if Manchester City accepted an offer.

The Mail says:

Atletico Madrid target swoop for Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo

..the 28-year-old is reportedly unhappy in England after struggling to settle in Manchester.

Atletico could offer Negredo an escape route back to Spain and have money to spend with Diego Costa poised to sign for Chelsea.

If it does happen then Manchester City will almost certainly be looking for a new striker this summer.

Having been fined by FIFA for their expenditure over the last couple of years they will have to tread carefully in the market. But with Negredo likely to bring in £20-£30 million Manchester City could be well on the way to having a budget for a new superstar striker.

What is for sure is that City will want to start the new season with 4 front men. So, perhaps before long, we will the likes of Falcao and Cavani linked with the club.

Manchester City fans: are you happy with your current strikeforce or would you like to add to this summer?
