Manchester City are reportedly preparing to launch an audacious bid to land Radamel Falcao. The striker, widely seen as one of the top strikers in world football, is a target for The Premier League champions as they look to strengthen for the upcoming season.

Prominent Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport believes that Manchester City are currently working on a deal that would see the Colombian forward move to England.

However, any transfer is likely to be a loan deal. This is largely to do with Financial Fair Play rules that Manchester City have already fallen foul of, but is also likely to be partly due to the fact that Falcao has only just recovered from a six-month injury layoff.

Any club wishing to sign him permanently would most probably have to pay a huge sum as Monaco paid over £50 million to secure his services just last year. This would be a huge risk to take on a player when the extent of his recovery is unknown.

The Manchester club would reportedly have to rival Real Madrid in order to secure a deal. The Champions League winners have been following the striker for a number of years and are very interested in making him part of their squad.

With Alvaro Negredo currently out of action due to injury, it leaves boss Manuel Pellegrini with just Edin Dzeko, Steven Jovetic and Sergio Aguero to call upon at the start of the season. With Aguero having suffered multiple muscle injuries recently, it makes sense for the manager to be looking at bringing in an extra striker to ensure they are competitive in Europe as well as domestically.

Any deal for Falcao, who is nicknamed El Tigre, to join Manchester City could see Steven Jovetic leaving The Etihad. The 24-year-old forward has struggled to make an impression since joining from Fiorentina in 2013 and made only 16 appearances in all competition last season but he has had a really promising preseason.

The Daily Mail reports that Juventus are monitoring the situation and could make a move for the striker if the Falcao deal goes through.
