Make or break signing – But Manchester United got it right

Van Gaal: A man of character

Best man

This is seen by many as a make or break season for Manchester United.

One campaign without Champions League football is okay. But if Manchester United were to find themselves out of the top four at the end of this season then they could be facing a similar abyss to the Liverpool side which had dominated for 20 years until the 1990s.

A couple of years outside of Europe’s elite competition and Manchester United would find it immeasurably harder to bring in top quality players and get back into the competition.

Indeed Manchester United may have already found it that much harder to acquire the cream of European talent this summer. And higher prices may be quoted as the selling clubs smell desperation.

So the managerial appointment of Louis van Gaal really was a massive decision for the club.

His only directive this season is to get Manchester United back into The Champions League so they can once more command those huge revenues and compete for the top players.

But looking at the way that he has conducted himself in his first couple of days at Manchester United you are filled with confidence that this is the right man for the job.

Suddenly there are smiles on the faces of the players again. And, unlike last season, there isn’t even a hint of a player agitating for a move. Van Gaal commands respect and the players and fans already believe in him – it really is a remarkable transformation from last season. The whole vibe is completely different. Excitement has replaced apprehension. Enthusiam and hunger has taken the place of fear and disenchantment.

If he can get the players reading from the same hymn sheet – which looks highly likely – and bring in a couple of really good additions then we could be seeing United back to their best with before too long. Because this guy is a tactical genius. You can be assured that he will get the best out of what he has – unlike the unfortunate Mr.Moyes.

It’s a critical juncture for Manchester United but we feel that they have brought in exactly the right man to fight this fire and return the club not only to the top of the league but to a more attractive way of playing football.

Louis van Gaal has allowed Manchester United fans to dream again.

So do you agree that Louis was an inspired signing for Manchester United?

I agree 100%. You have omitted the fact that, although out of Europe, van Gaal will still attract some of the top players. This is something Moyes couldn’t do when United WERE in Europe. So the upshot of that fact is that United are better off with van Gaal and out of Europe than with Moyes and in Europe.
A damning indictment of Ferguson really as he was the one who chose Moyes, he should have realised the potential problems.

He really is the man for the job. We were unfortunate to have Moyes at the helm but I see good tidings ahead with Van Gaal in charge.
