Liverpool linked with yet another

We were going to entitle this article ‘Who is Caner Erkin?’ But we have absolutely no idea, so it would have been a genuine question.

What we do know is that Liverpool are struggling a little bit on the left side of defence. Jose Enrique is out until next year after his op. Aly Cissokho looked like the business when he first turned up in Liverpool in autumn but his star has since faded.

As for Jon Flanagan, Liverpool fans will hope that he makes the grade. But at the is point he looks just as likely to be a nearly man.

So Brendan Rodgers, that canny operator in the transfer market, will probably try to strengthen this area of his squad in January.

Various reports suggest that Liverpool will make a winter move for Erkin, who plies his trade in Turkey with Fenerbahce. The 25 year old has been on form this season with 9 assists to his name already.

The Star says:

According to reports in Turkey, Liverpool are considering a cut-price move for Erkin with his contract set to expire in the summer.

With his contract expiring so soon you wouldn’t imagine Liverpool would have to spend too much money on him so he wouldn’t really represent that much of a gamble. Liverpool have enough defenders to adapt to injuries at the back and could even play a three again if they wanted to. So Brendan Rodgers might wait until the summer before he signs a major player at left back. Erkin may prove to be the perfect stop-gap in the meantime.
