Liverpool have done a lot of business with the money raised from the sale of Luis Suarez this summer. They would appear to be far better equipped now, than they were in May, for the rigours of domestic and European football next season.
A deal for Alberto Moreno finally could be close after reports on Friday that a fee has been agreed between the clubs.
With the addition of Dejan Lovren from Southampton and Javier Manquillo, who joined on loan this week from Atletico Madrid, Liverpool look much more solid at the back with further signings unlikely in that department.
The midfield also looks pretty good with Can, Markovic and Lallana swelling the numbers. It’s still not inconceivable that Brendan Rodgers will go for one more signing in the engine room however, particularly with rumours suggesting Lucas Leiva is drawing interest from abroad. But Henderson, Gerrard and Can is a great combo, if they remain fit.
But it’s up front where we believe another arrival is most likely. The ultimately failed pursuit of Loic Remy means that Rodgers may spend the rest of his window focusing on striking additions.
Although we like Rickie Lambert, we haven’t been impressed with him in pre-season and, if Daniel Sturridge gets injured Liverpool will be in trouble.
The idea of bringing Radamel Falcao to the club is extremely exciting. He seems destined for Real Madrid but we believe that this is one of the only signings that would maintain Liverpool’s upward trajectory this season, having lost Luis. It’s such a big loss that we believe an A-list replacement is required and The Reds haven’t yet got one.
Let’s imagine that Liverpool do get one of Cavani, Falcao or Lavezzi in the ideal scenario. Here’s how they could line up against Southampton in that season opener:
