Liverpool: Super news in a bad week

Liverpool fans may take time to apologise this week to any Evertonians who they may have disparaged in the past, in the hope the Goodison faithful get behind their team big time come Saturday evening.

Because they need a favour from The Toffees like never before this weekend. After Chelsea beat Liverpool at Anfield last weekend it’s been a pretty flat week for the red half of Merseyside. But Everton are, after all, in their best form for years and Manchester City most certainly won’t have it all their own way at Goodison Park this weekend.

But amidst the disappointment this week there has been some really brilliant news for Liverpool fans.

Because Luis Suarez has once more reassured the Liverpool faithful that he’s planning to stay at the club beyond the end of this season despite rumours once again linking him with Real Madrid.

“I’m very happy here and my family is happy here,” he said. “Don’t worry, nothing is going to happen to me. If we could win the Premier League and bring the trophy home it would be incredible, a dream come true.”

You do feel that, regardless of what happens in this title race, if Liverpool can hold onto Suarez this summer then the future is exceedingly bright and it’s just the start of an amazing adventure for Brendan Rodgers and his team.

If they can add a couple more real quality players to the squad this summer they will be challenging on all fronts next season. But if Suarez were to leave Liverpool then many will feel that they are back to square one. In truth there should be some kind of specific rule to prevent Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and Gareth Bale turning out in the same side – it simply wouldn’t be fair on the rest.

But his quotes seem pretty categoric at this stage. Liverpool fans: do you feel comfortable with the Suarez situation this year?
