Liverpool linked with another brilliant forward

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to launch a bid for Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez.

The 24 year old, who can play in a variety of attacking positions, is a supposed target of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers. It now appears that the Merseyside club are keen to sign the player for a fee of around £15 million, according to The Daily Star.

…now the Kop boss is eyeing a fourth Saints player in crocked striker Rodriguez.

Rodriguez has been out injured since April. He ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, keeping him side-lined for up to 6 months. Despite the injury, Liverpool are still considering a move knowing that he could be back in the squad in October.

The forward joined Premier League side Southampton after spending five years at Burnley. During that time he also had spells on loan at Barnsley and Stirling Albion. Having scored 31 goals for Burnley in 105 league games he secured a £7 million move to Southampton in 2012.

He has since gone on to play a pivotal role in the side, helping them to remain in The Premier League in 2013 and finish so highly last season. His two years at St. Mary’s has seen him find the net 26 times from 76 games in all competitions.

He also has 1 full international cap for England and was expected to be part of Roy Hodgson’s squad for the 2014 World Cup. However, his injury kept him from playing a part in the tournament.

If Liverpool do make an attempt to sign Rodriguez it will mean Southampton could face a tough task rebuilding their squad over the transfer window. They have already lost both Rickey Lambert and Adam Lallana to Liverpool, while Luke Shaw has moved to Manchester United.

The Reds though are having a fantastically busy transfer period. They have already secured the services of several players and could be set to use the funds from Luis Suarez’s £75 million transfer to Barcelona to fund deals for Wilfried Bony, Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi.

Can’t see it being a problem to Southampton if Liverpool bid for him, they only have to say no as he’s under contract to them
