Liverpool – Kenny, sign him up

Liverpool were again sunk at the weekend in what has now become a worrying sequence of results since the defeat of Cardiff at the Millennium Stadium 2 weeks ago. I have said many times that Martin O’Neill is some kind of genius so it’s never going to be easy to get a win away at one of his sides. You could easily imagine the Irishman taking over at an elite club such as Liverpool at some point in future, but that is conjecture for another time.

Many were hoping that the League Cup victory would spur Liverpool on to a concerted final push for a Champions League spot. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened and now the boat has surely sailed for this season. 10 points adrift, The Reds would need to pull back a point per game from now until the end of the season to have any chance of getting into Europe’s top competition next year.

It’s not impossible but the most important thing to do now is figure out where they went wrong. For me, it’s quite simple. Not enough goals and, consequently, too many draws. Liverpool have scored a paltry 30 goals in the league – just 5 more than Robin Van Persie alone.

It’s not the worst problem to have. The defence looks solid enough and the midfield just needs a little more spark. But, up front, Liverpool need to bolster. Andy Carroll was supposed to be one answer but, as yet, he hasn’t come up with the goods.

There is talk this morning that Edin Dzeko is unhappy at Manchester City and could leave at the end of the season. If I were Kenny I would bite Mancini’s hand off to get this guy. When he gets in to his stride there are few more powerful or effective strikers in the league. City may not want him but that’s no shame as a club with that sort of money is always going to be a little impatient. Edin Dzeko has goals coming out of his ears. He can score from anywhere on the park and he works hard too. In short, he’s everything that Liverpool fans were expecting of Carroll.

A look at the variety of goals that he scored against Spurs at the start of the season tells you everything you need to know about the sort of impact he could have at Anfield. If Edin Dzeko does become available, surely Kenny has to sign him up because he would be great for Liverpool.

I do wish the people who write these articles would realise that Kenny has very little input into the signings, Kenny is just the fall guy for Director of Football, Damien Comolli’s crappy purchases. To date he has only ever made on good signing and that was Bale to Spurs. Harry Redknap soon got rid of the French waste of space.

Bill is one of the few people with a real brain.

Notice re: Suarez the Frenchman comes out with detailed accounts as to how HE tracked him, yet goes silent when it comes to Adam, Henderson, Carroll.
