Super player

Liverpool have reportedly begun discussions to bring Daley Blind to Anfield. Club officials have opened talks with Ajax in the hope of landing him according to The Metro.

The Dutch international recently impressed during the Netherlands thrashing of Spain in their opening match of The World Cup where he played a key role and impressed a number of pundits.

The Metro reports that Liverpool would likely have to pay at least £12 million, though that price could increase if he puts in more excellent performances in Brazil.

Blind is a versatile player able to play at left back, centre back or as a defensive midfielder, which would make him an excellent addition to a squad that will be playing in both The Premier League and The Champions League next season.

The Merseyside club will be in need of squad depth and players who can fill in at a number of positions as they look to compete across multiple tournaments.

Liverpool face competition from both Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund according to the same source however, so they could face a tough battle to get his signature.

Blind may well be tempted to link up with his current national coach Louis van Gaal who will take over as manager at Old Trafford after The World Cup.

The 24 year old came up through the Ajax youth system before making his way into the senior side in 2008. After spending a spell on loan at Groningen in 2010 he has become a regular in the Dutch club’s side, making 99 league appearances and helping them to four Eredivisie titles.

He got his first call up to the Netherlands senior national side in 2013 having played at all youth levels. He has so far gained 13 caps but this is likely to increase as The World Cup progresses over the coming days and weeks.

Let’s see him in action. Liverpool fans: keen?

Money buys good players and gives them good wages. Liverpool aren’t there yet. That’s obvious!

Man U needs to realise they are the Liverpool of last season as far as the transfer window is concerned. They are no longer attractive to established players because they simply don’t have the time on their hands to wait another year at least to compete at the highest level. LvG is a good manager but it is uncertain if he can excel at club level now, so stability of the club is another concern. They have to take a chance at younger players, or players who are unhappy at their current club, keeping their approach under wraps and hope none of the CL clubs will notice. They cannot declare their interest and expect the player to sign on the dotted line.
I doubt Liverpool is interested in Blind as Ricardo Rodriguez, Marcos Rojo and Alberto Moreno are better options.

LFC should not be thinking of winning the title if they cannot afford quality players.

My belief was when we get back in top four and cl football wed entice major signings to the club but all we seem to be after is cheap options we need players who are gonna strengthen our starting team thought we were moving forwards not so sure

“Swooping” for this player, “monitoring” another, blah blah blah – next thing he’s signed for someone else (Chelsea Spurs or MU) because we wouldn’t go that little step further. What happened to our “top quality targets” now we’re in CL – LFC need to realise top players come at top prices but surely this can only be seen as sensible investment for the future. Staying in CL spots each season is imperative to future of club so come on owners – spend big!
