What a player

After bringing Emre Can and Rickie Lambert in already this summer, Liverpool are said to be closing in on the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri after reportedly making a big money contract offer.

With club officials having apparently met with the winger’s family to discuss a deal it has emerged that they have offered a £95,000 a week deal, according to The Metro.

Although no fee has been agreed with Bayern Munich, the report suggests that this may not be a major obstacle to the deal.

The 22 year old scored a stunning hat-trick on Wednesday while playing for Switzerland in The World Cup. That excellent performance has helped his side get through to the knockout stages of the competition.

However, it will have undoubtedly also captured the attention of other big clubs, meaning Liverpool will likely want to get any deal done as soon as possible.

Shaqiri has only had two years at the German club, having joined from FC Basel in 2012. He had previously spent almost his whole career with the Swiss side, breaking into the senior side in 2009. Since 2009 the 22 year old has found the net 38 times in 195 appearances in all competitions.

Despite his young age the winger has also become an important figure in the Swiss national side. He already has 32 full caps and with last night’s hat-trick he has brought his tally up to 12.

Liverpool have been continuously linked with wide men and forwards over the last few weeks. Transfer deals for Alexis Sanchez and Adam Lallana have both been all over the back pages but neither deal has been concluded. With both players involved at The World Cup it has been slow going to get deals over the line.
