Tottenham

Is this what Spurs are missing?

If Tottenham aren’t quite yet flying as yet they are certainly gaining a great deal of ground speed and their season could well be on a good trajectory. They may be slightly frustrated that their momentum has been checked by the silly international break. Nevertheless AVB will be buoyed that his Tottenham are starting to resemble a proper team.

We think that Moussa Dembele, along with Eden Hazard, will prove to be the best signing of the season and Tottenham have generally bought well. But, talking to a Spurs fan the other day, I was reminded of the difference that Luka Modric used to make to Tottenham. And even with the devastating Dembele now in their ranks they perhaps still miss the metronomic Modric.

Which is why AVB pulled out most of the stops to get Joao Moutinho in the summer. He failed, but one feels that he will be back in January to finish the deal. Moutinho may be the difference between Champions and Europa league for Tottenham this season in a division that has more quality than ever.

Moutinho is unlikely to get you 15 goals a season but what he does do brilliantly, just like the Croatian whose name we won’t use twice, is keep the ball moving, pick out perfect passes and generally act as the go to man of the side – especially when possession is at a premium against top sides. We think that he would be a great addition to Tottenham.

Moutinho is a decent little player, hard working and a good engine, but he’s not great and he is nowhere near Luka’s level
Not unhappy that we missed out, his asking price was far to high for a decent but nowhere near top level mid
We do need another CM in January but there’s some excellent options out there for less than Porto want for Moutinho

modric who, forget that fool, nothing wrong with Dembele, Sandro, Parker, Townsend, Lennon, Bale, Siggurdson, Dempsey & Livermore(although we look better without the latter), what would be good is a Llorente or a Damiao, that would be primo

Bazza you say there’s some excellent options out there for less than Moutinho’s value, but give me some examples.

TBH i think we miss VDV and Ade. ade is back now and try as he might Defoe just isn’t in this class. Defoe is a good player and a true yid but he will make way for Ade or someone else. he needs too high a ratio of chances to score. I think spurs midfield is fine, so long as we keep huddlestone and Livermore out of it. Anyone maligning Modric really doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Very very good player, problem with them is they don’t always suit a team like Real M. IMO he left too early. he’d be amazing in this squad. Wonder if we could loan him in Jan?
