Next Everton stopper?

Everton have had a brilliant season so far but you get the sense that the ambitious new coach, Roberto Martinez, is just at the start of his project to reshape the team in his image.

Even in the short time that Martinez has been Everton manager he has managed to adapt the playing style to one which the fans love. It’s perhaps a more expansive manner of playing football than Everton fans became accustomed to during the David Moyes era.

One player who will need replacing in the mid-term is Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard. At 34 he still has some lead in the pencil and looks nimble as ever – few would argue that Howard hasn’t been an excellent signing for the club – but it would be ideal to start easing in a successor sooner rather than later – an evolution as opposed to an emergency buy in a couple of years.

At 7 years Howard’s junior Levante goalkeeper Keylor Navas has been linked with Everton of late. The Costa Rica international, of some 50 caps, has been on fire this season and Talksport reckons that Everton will have their work cut out to secure his signature, if they do make a move:

Sevilla have become the latest side to join Everton and Liverpool among the growing pack of clubs in pursuit of Levante goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

The 27-year-old has an £8.2m release clause fee in his contract but Sevilla are looking to part with a lower fee and offer Senegalese striker Papa Babacar Diawara, who is currently on loan at Levante, as part of the deal.

Let’s have a look at the stopper in action. Everton fans – does this guy have the presence to take over between the sticks?
