One of the ‘will he won’t he’ transfer stories of the summer seems to be occurring at Everton.

And it’s a frustrating state of affairs because this transfer will dictate to all Everton’s other business for the summer.

And the subject is whether Romelu Lukaku will make a permanent move to Everton or go elsewhere.

There appear to have been a carousel of clubs linked to the player over the last few months as Everton seemed to be getting further away from his permanent signature.

However recent omens appear good and the player has seemingly stated that he may return to Everton this autumn. Earlier this month he reportedly said:

“I have the opportunity to stay at Everton, it is a possibility and it is something we will have to talk about. But first I want to go back to Belgium, see my family and get some rest,”

In further positive portents The Daily Mail reported late Friday night that a deal for Lukaku could be completed in the next 48 hours. So that would be about 36 now! They say:

Everton are closing on a deal to take Romelu Lukaku back to Goodison Park.

Roberto Martinez has made signing the Belgian his top priority of the summer and is looking increasing like landing his man possibly in the next 48 hours.

Everton have moved in to odds on favourites, with bookmaker SkyBet, to bring the brilliant Belgian to the club this summer at, first to 2/5 and now to 1/4.

Having had a mixed performance at The World Cup his stock may have fallen slightly, but that will play into Everton’s hands as they know how good he is, and how valuable he can be to their top four push next season. While other clubs may have cooled their interest Everton know what this lad can do and have absolutely no complaints about his ability.

Everton will want to get this one done as soon as possible so that Roberto Martinez can move on to other areas of the squad.

Let’s see Lukaku’s goals for the club. Everton fans: do you think this one is going to happen?
