Does Juan Mata?
Sure he Matas. Damn right he Matas! Obviously he Matas. He Matas to Manchester United anyway.
Come on, we are all surely allowed one go at this naff pun….
It’s impossible not to admire Jose Mourinho as a manager. His control in press conferences is remarkable and he generally gets great results on the field.
You would also have to say that he is a very good judge of a footballer. But we can’t help thinking that Manchester United have got a better deal than Chelsea with the signing of Juan Mata.
Sure Chelsea may need to balance the books with so much money being spent year-on-year. But the fact that they couldn’t find a place for someone who scores and assists in so many goals is very strange indeed.
Since August 2011 Mata has been incredibly productive for Chelsea, scoring 18 goals and assisting 27 others. In terms of assists in that period, he is second only to Manchester City maestro David Silva, who has 29.
The Chelsea boss may have thought that Mata lacked in other areas. Many think one of the reasons for his expulsion from Chelsea is his inability to track back when his team doesn’t have possession. The easy solution to that, as far as Manchester United are concerned, is to put him in the middle of the park.
Manchester United have needed a creative midfielder for a long time and this guy could be the solution. Since Paul Scholes retired nobody is pinging the ball from the centre circle unless Wayne Rooney comes back to help out.
But Mata’s range of passing is superb. He also loves to arrive late into the box and is prolific in front of goal. Add all these qualities to the fact that he now has a point to prove at Manchester United and you surely have a scary footballer on your hands – someone who can win many medals with his new club.
The Chelsea boss clearly knows what he’s doing but Manchester United really have come up trumps with the much mooted signing of Juan Mata.
