Big names linked to Palace

Tony Pulis lost his first game in charge of Crystal Palace at the weekend. But we saw some promise in the performance and at least they weren’t completely turned over, as they have been by several sides this season.

Tonight Crystal Palace play at home, in a difficult, but potentially winnable game against West Ham – a victory that would really kickstart the season for The Eagles. Let’s make no mistake the new manager needs to get his team playing better. But it’s just as important that they make inroads in the transfer market in January.

To that end, two big names have been mentioned in the rumours columns today. Crystal Palace need to strengthen their spine if they are going to stay in this division and The Guardian reckons that they may have two names lined up for January. It says:

The Everton striker Nikica Jelavic and the former Fulham midfielder-turned-free agent Mahamadou Diarra both feature prominently in the letter that the new Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis has sent to Father Christmas as he sets about the onerous task of trying to keep the south London club in the Premier League.

Here are two gettable and really good quality players for Crystal Palace. Diarra was heralded as one of the best players in the world before injury blighted his career. Whether Fulham would want to let him go, in their current situation, remains highly debatable. But he would certainly add muscle and direction to the Crystal Palace midfield.

As for Jelavic, he was one of the finds of The Premier League the season before last, but ex-Everton manager David Moyes simply couldn’t get the same out of him last time around. His head has gone down a little bit in recent months and new players have come in to Everton to further limit his chances. So it really looks like he needs a change of scenery. But class is permanent and we think that he could do a really good job Crystal Palace.

Let’s see him in action. Palace fans, would these two signings boil your potatoes?
