Chelsea winning battle to sign yet another world star – report

Jose Mourinho is such a canny operator that it’s hard to guess his next move in the market.

That’s possibly why Chelsea can get deals done so quickly. He pulls the wool over your eyes and then springs a quick surprise – like the one that brought the sensational Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea. After Manchester United spent over a year trying to signing Mourinho rocks up and gets a deal done in a jiffy! What a guy…

Chelsea haven’t finished their spending for this summer and reports on Wednesday afternoon suggest that they are beating the competition for yet another much sought after star.

The Express reports:

Chelsea beating Man Utd and Man City in race for Roma star Mehdi Benatia

With Manchester City seemingly close to signing the powerhouse that is Eliaqum Mangala and Manchester United potentially signing Mats Hummels and Thomas Vermaelen you would imagine that Chelsea would have a pretty clear run at Benatia if they want him.

He’s a brilliant defender, with great experience, who rarely makes a mistake.

At 27 he’s really made his name in the last four years at Udinese and Roma after starting his professional career in Marseille. he also has 31 caps for Morocco.

Benatia would be a really solid investment for Chelsea.

Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans: does Benatia boil your potatoes?
