Chelsea planning another major signing – report

stanford-bridge

Awesome talent

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has implied that his transfer business is over for the summer. But even Chelsea fans will take that comment with a pinch of salt as we know that Mourinho has a penchant for pulling the wool over our eyes.

If or when (we think the ‘when’ is the more likely) Chelsea do add another player Mourinho will give us some caveat about how his comments were taken out of context or that he wasn’t expecting a certain player to leave. Either way, expect more movement in the market.

With Kurt Zouma out on loan Chelsea may look for another central defender. They have of course got Cahill, Terry and Ivanovic, but we think they couldn’t still improve in the centre back positions.

Real Madrid centre back Raphael Varane has previously been mooted as a Chelsea target and Jose Mourinho obviously likes the player.

The Metro reports that Chelsea could make an imminent move for the brilliant young centre back. They say:

Chelsea begin work on transfer to sign Real Madrid outcast Raphael Varane

We have to say that we will be very surprised if Real Madrid let him go. Even though he only played 20 odd games for the club last season he’s surely seen as a future star of the Bernabeu. He’s got great feet, game intelligence and has good ground speed. There is very little not to like about him.

Add the fact that he got picked ahead of the much hyped Eliaquim Mangala at The World Cup and you can see that Varane is a real talent.

Chelsea would be extremely lucky to sign the player but Jose’s links to him and Real Madrid might make a difference in negotiations.

Let’s have a look at Varane in action. Chelsea fans: would this be a necessary immediate addition or a player for the future?
