Chelsea: Treble signing to end all others – report
The January window is not far behind us but it appears that managers of elite clubs are already making their plans for summer squad improvements.
Although the window doesn’t officially open until July 1 many top managers will have already discussed deals and have shortlists in place for their summer business. With this being a World Cup year there is more pressure than ever for clubs like Chelsea to get their business done early. Because a successful World Cup for a target will see their value skyrocket and competition for their signature intensify.
So the job of putting together a wish list starts now.
The Guardian today reports that Chelsea already have a very good idea of who they want to bring in this summer – and what a list!
Chelsea manager José Mourinho’s interest in signing Southampton full-back Luke Shaw, PSG striker Edinson Cavani and Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira hasn’t dimmed over the weekend and the Chelsea manager will hope to find time in his hectic Sniping At Arsène Wenger schedule to bring all three players to Stamford Bridge before the start of the World Cup.
With Ashley Cole on the wane and noone at Chelsea currently nailing down the striker spot, it’s easy to imagine Jose going for Luke Shaw and Edinson Cavani. Cavani has proven to be the bomb wherever he has played and even the recent curse of big money strikers coming into Chelsea will surely not affect this man. To see him in The Premier League would be fantastic.
As for Shaw, even at 18, the number of superior left-backs in the world of football is small. He’s holding his own in The Premier League already and one can only imagine how good he will be at 23.
Sami Khedira was one of Mourinho’s main man at Real Madrid and there have been rumours flying around, for some time, about his potential departure from the club. Having sustained a serious injury in the autumn his hopes of going to The World Cup are in the balance but, by next season, he should be fit and firing again.
All in all, its hard to imagine many teams beating Chelsea next season, if they do succeed in hiring these three.
