Chelsea transfer news: France reports on the ‘Falcao mystery’

No smoke without fire with Falcao speculation?

When we first heard the Falcao rumours we laughed. We thought that even the most optimistic Chelsea fan couldn’t possibly expect such a big name player to move clubs twice within 6 months. With such a big price tag on his head you would have thought that Monaco were planning to build a team around the brilliant striker.

But, we always say, there is rarely smoke without fire and this story simply won’t go away. Whether or not it is simply newspaper hype we will know soon enough. But January looks like it could be a very interesting month for Chelsea.

The Spanish newspaper Marca has followed the story:

Radamel Falcao will miss his fourth straight game for Monaco this Saturday, officially due to some discomfort in his leg, a minor injury which does not appear to justify such a lengthy absence and one which has raised all kinds of questions in France.

“L’Équipe” led with the headline “The Falcao Mystery” and offered up several theories, like a possible falling out between the player and his manager, Claudio Ranieri, or the player’s eventual departure during the January transfer window.

The club is not being at all transparent and the injury, which the manager described as “less than a contracture”, has turned into a controversial topic in the Principality.

Looking at the facts, Chelsea need fresh blood in the striking department. Though Fernando Torres has been unfairly criticised by some he certainly hasn’t hit the heights of his Liverpool career. One wonders whether he will ever reach that level again with Chelsea. Demba Ba is surely on his way, if not in January, then in the summer. And Samuel Eto’o was only ever going to be a short-term solution.

Chelsea may wait until the summer to reinforce their front line. But if the opportunity arose to sign Falcao then surely Chelsea would snap him up.

Let’s see the guy in action for Monaco. Chelsea fans, would Falcao be your number one choice?
