Chelsea Transfer: Another Major Deal Agreed

Yet another deal for Chelsea

We thought that Chelsea were going to have a quiet January transfer window. Judging by noises coming out of Stamford Bridge at the turn of the year it seemed as if most of the business would be done in the summer.

But we should all know by now that the Chelsea manager is utterly in control of the media. Information is made available to the press and the wider public when Jose wants it to be – and not before.

So we shouldn’t be surprised that Chelsea today completed their fourth major signing of the transfer window. Following on from deals for Nemanja Matic, Bertrand Traore and Mohammed Salah, they have now agreed a deal for the might sought after St.Etienne defender Kurt Zouma.

The Guardian reported today:

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Kurt Zouma from St Etienne, where the defender will remain on loan for the rest of the season.

The 19-year-old has signed a five-and-a-half year contract at Stamford Bridge and has joined for a fee believed to be £12.5m.

He will remain in France for the rest of the season, before joining up with his Chelsea team-mates at the end of this campaign.

The report goes on to quote Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho who says that this will be the final move in the transfer market for The Blues:

“Job done,” Mourinho said. “The last one in the transfer window. In almost every position we have the present and also the future.”

The Chelsea boss has thrown us many curveballs in the past so we aren’t completely ruling out further additions for the club. But he did seem fairly categoric when he said that would be no more movement.

The 19 year old Zouma is already 6ft3in and has played for France at every youth International level.

While he won’t play for the club this season he certainly looks like another super player in the wood for Chelsea.

Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans, would you rather have taken Zouma now rather than loan him back to St.Etienne?

Good deal at the reported £12m which could have turned into a Dutch auction in the summer. I can see Zouma joining up with the depleted Chelsea first team squad this summer after the World Cup. Whether he is loaned out again next season will depend on what Jose decides to do with Luiz and JT for next term.
