Chelsea boy in surprise move? Report

Another move

It’s one of the strangest stories in modern football. When Fernando Torres was at Liverpool he was among the very best strikers in the world. His pace, ball control and finishing ability put him in a league of his own in England and he would have been on the wishlist of every top club.

When he went to Chelsea for £50m he didn’t seem over priced, even though his last season on Merseyside had been hampered by injury.

But, from that point on, his career nose-dived. He didn’t have a great start at Chelsea and he let it affect him. His head went down. Injuries dampened his pace and the rest is history.

We hoped that Italy would give him a new lease of life but 1 goal in 5 games is not the record of a prolific marksman. Can anyone save the lad?

Well, reports today suggest that Roberto di Matteo and Schalke want to try.

Bild reckons that, despite having a year long loan pencilled in at Milan, he could move in January.

At the age of 30 you would hope that there is still time for the lad to rediscover his form – we would certainly like to see it happen – but you do sense that Torres is on a long, slow and terminal slide into the football abyss.

Chelsea fans: can Torres get back to his best or is it all over for the lad?
