Chelsea was beginning to resemble a strikers’ graveyard after the highly expensive failures of Torres and Shevchenko. But that old alchemist Jose Mourinho wasn’t lying when he said he was happy with his squada after the summer investment at Chelsea.
And, although Fabregas has been a sensation, the new jewel in the crown must surely be Diego Costa. He’s been nursing a muscle strain for most of the season but has already bagged a remarkable 10 goals in 9 Premier League games since his summer move from Atletico.
And now his legacy at his old club is coming to the fore as he has been shortlisted for the FIFA Puskás Award for best goal of last season in all competitions. The Chelsea star’s amazing strike against Getafe for his old club is one of ten which made the final list.
