Chelsea linked with classy number 10 – what does this mean for Oscar?

At the start of last season Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was waxing lyrical on a regular basis about the talents of his Brazilian number 10 Oscar.

He even sold Juan Mata as a sign of his confidence in the youngster.

But the form of the Chelsea forward dipped dramatically in the second half of the season and he wasn’t even a guaranteed starter in the spring. Furthermore Osar has been regularly linked with a move to PSG. The Telegraph said Friday:

PSG may return later in the summer with bids for Oscar and Eden Hazard. If the offer is as generous as the one for Luiz, they are prepared to sell at least one of them.

Of course he is still just a young man and consistency usually comes towards the mid 20s.

But Chelsea have been linked today with a player who could easily fill the number 10 role. The Metro says:

Chelsea are ready to hijack Newcastle’s move for Montpellier star Remy Cabella by offering him more money to move to Stamford Bridge.

Cabella is an excellent attacking creator who can also play on the wings. So his potential signing doesn’t necessarily mean Oscar’s place is under threat. Jose Mourinho wants a highly competitive squad at Chelsea and he would obviously like to keep Oscar on his toes.

Cabella has apparently been told he can leave Montpellier this summer as he has come to an impasse in his contract negotiations. But the report continues:

…according to reports in France, Chelsea have now stepped in and offered the player the chance to switch to the Blues instead.

The 24-year-old knows his game time would be limited at Chelsea but the opportunity to work with Jose Mourinho is tempting.

Apparently Chelsea are prepared to pay £7m and 90k a week in wages to snare the adaptable attacking midfielder.

As well as providing competition for Oscar, Cabella could do a job on either wing if Hazard, Willian, Schurrle or Salah have dips, which they all did at stages this season.

Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Chelsea fans: Does Cabella boil your potatoes?
