Chelsea’s next Leader?

Chelsea’s defence is arguably the best in the league right now – they really do look solid as a rock. But, as with the departures of Lampard and Drogba (the first time around) Chelsea will have to somehow cope with the loss of a legend in the next couple of years.

Because, at 33, John Terry is coming to the end of his career and he’s not going to be an easy player to replace. Quite apart from his playing ability, his leadership skills and desire to win were rare qualities indeed.

Kurt Zouma looks like an excellent prospect but it will take a certain type of character to eventually replace Terry and recent reports suggest that The Stamford Bridge outfit may feel that the have found one. The Star says:

Chelsea target Stuttgart wonderkid Antonio Rudiger

The Stuttgart defender was said to be a target of West ham in the summer but the club baulked at his asking price – reportedly in the region of £7m.

At 21 he is still a colt but shows the sort of in game desire as the England legend and looks tailor made for The Premier League.

It’s going to be a long while and much game time before the lad could aspire to fill the boots of Terry. But someone has eventually got to do it and this guy looks like a warrior. He’s become a regular for Stuttgart and has already played 3 times for a German national team with tougher competition for places than at any time in the last two decades.

Let’s see the lad in action. Chelsea fans: who would you like to see take Terry’s place?
