Perfect addition

Chelsea have reportedly moved ahead of London rivals Arsenal to land Sami Khedira.

Jose Mourinho’s side have taken the initiative following problems with the German and Arsenal agreeing contract terms, which could now see him move to Stamford Bridge according to The Metro.

Chelsea have moved into pole position to Sami Khedira from Real Madrid with Arsenal refusing to meet his £150,000-a-week wage demands.

A report yesterday suggested that the German midfielder would be joining Arsenal in the very near future. According to the source, The Gunners had already agreed a £23 million deal for the 27-year-old with Real Madrid. The only stumbling block remaining was the personal terms wanted by the star, with a potential problem in the wages being demanded by Khedira.

The Mirror believes that Khedira is asking for wages in excess of £150,000. That sum would make him the highest paid player at The Emirates, moving him ahead of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez who are both on around £130,000.

Arsene Wenger appears unwilling to sanction a contract with such high wages, meaning a move for the German midfielder could not be off the table.

Chelsea could have a significant advantage in trying to secure the 27-year-old’s services. He has previously worked with their manager when Mourinho was in charge of Real Madrid.

Khedira looks certain to leave Madrid this summer as his contract expires next year. The Spanish club do not want to see the player leave for nothing when they can secure a large transfer fee during the transfer window.

The defensive minded midfielder has played over 140 games for Real Madrid in all competitions since joining from Stuttgart in 2010. He is also a vastly experienced international, having secured 51 caps for Germany and helping them on the way to winning the 2014 World Cup.

The player could link up with some of his World Cup winning teammates if he goes to either Arsenal or Chelsea. The North London side currently have Per Metesacker, Lukas Podolski and Mesut Oil on their books, while Chelsea have forward Andre Schurrle.

Let’s see the lad in action. Chelsea fans: final piece in the jigsaw?
