Barcelona: Major Arrival Close – report

A club the size of Barcelona is always going to attract the attention of the tabloid media in terms of transfers every summer.

While many of the stories have substance it’s important to separate the wheat from the chaff.

What we are fairly certain of is that Barcelona are trying to do a deal with Paris St Germain for the brilliant Brazilian Marquinhos.

Reports in sport.ES today suggest that the deal is very close.

We have reported on this story a couple of times now. We think that Marquinhos would be a sensational acquisition for Barcelona. He’s got the technical ability required to play for the Catalans but is also possibly a more solid defender than Barcelona currently possess.

With the departure of Carlos Puyol Barcelona really need to sign a big personality for the centre of the defence and even though this guy is young he’s full of composure and confidence.

We do find it strange that PSG were prepared to sell him in the first place, and replace him with David Luis, but Lauren Blanc clearly knows what he’s doing. Sport es. says:

Barca and PSG are on track to close the deal for Marquinhos in Brazil that they couldn’t complete in Barcelona and Paris.

Let’s take another look at him in action. Barcelona fans: would you be confident with Marquinhos in central defence next season?
