Barcelona: Will this be the next major recruit?

Barcelona are wasting no time in the transfer market this summer. They have been one of the biggest movers so far and, while they will be wary of balancing the books, they clearly haven’t finished with their summer spend yet.

The signing of Mathieu was clearly one of their priorities and whilst it took time to get the deal done he’s finally a Barcelona player.

But many fans and onlookers believe that Barcelona need to further strengthen their defence before next season.

Mathieu can do a job in various defensive positions but Barcelona could still go for an authoritative centre back with great technique. Perhaps this will be Daniel Agger.

It’s not the first time that the player has been linked to Barcelona and reports over the weekend suggest that a move could be on.

The Daily Mail suggested:

Barcelona are considering a bid for Liverpool centre-half Daniel Agger, according to reports in Spain.

Agger may find his game time further limited at his current club this season after they spent £20m on Dejan Lovren at the weekend.

So we think that Agger will be on the move this summer and it could work out to be a perfect transfer for Barcelona.

The 29 year old has 64 caps for Denmark and scored a notable 11 goals. He’s also been a really solid Premier League player. He successfully combines his defensive duties with a cavalier style that sees him get forward and offer serious goal threat – especially from set pieces.

So he’s certainly the sort of player that would suit Barcelona and he wouldn’t cost the earth.

Let’s see some of his highlights. Barcelona fans: interested?
