Barcelona have made contact with the agent of Manchester United target with view to a summer deal – report

Marca has today suggested that Manchester United’s reported target Miranda may be on his way to Barcelona.

It was reported in some areas of the media on Wednesday that Miranda was on the verge of agreeing a deal to join Manchester United as the club was peppered to pay his £24m release clause. But these suggestions proved hasty to say the least.

The Spanish club have apparently been highly impressed with the player having seen him at close quarters for Atletico Madrid this season.

The Brazilian developed a great relationship with Atletico’s other centre back, Diego Godin, as the defence conceded only 26 goals on their way to La Liga trophy. This partnership is seen as one of the main reasons for the tittle success this year.

This could well spell trouble for Manchester United if they are keen. Barcelona would obviously tempt most players with a desire to succeed at the top and a move within Spain would mean less upheaval for the 29 year old.

This may also explain why Manchester United have today been linked with a move for Germany international Mats Hummels.

Of course, there is a chance that both could sign for Manchester United, who have lost Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic n a short spec of time.

Marca says:

Joao Miranda could be set to join Barcelona as the club looks to strengthen their back four ahead of next season. The Catalan giants are currently studying several options given that they could bring in up to two centre-backs.

Barcelona made first contact with the defender’s agent on Wednesday in an attempt to negotiate the personal terms of his new contract. There is no room for negotiation with Atlético de Madrid, as the club have no intention of letting their man go for less than his 20m buy-out clause.

Let’s see the lad in action.
