Barcelona closing in on major signing – report

Replacement found?

It looks ever more likely that Cesc Fabregas has played his last game for Barcelona in what has been a strange period for the player. Utterly revered in England the Spaniard doesn’t seem to have had the same effect in Spain, even though his stats have been really good.

At 27 he seemed like the perfect player to step into the breach that will be created when Xavi finally hangs up his boots and Iniesta’s powers wane.

Nevertheless, many believe that he’s on his way to Chelsea and Barcelona look as if they may have planned for his departure already. Marca reports today that Barcelona could be close signing.

Ivan Rakitic has one and half feet in Barcelona. Persistent rumours coming out of Seville in the last few days have led to a speeding up of talks with a view to reaching a swift conclusion with the Croatian central midfielder and his current club Sevilla.

A firm commitment is in place and it is now just a question of beating out the finer details between Barça, the Andalusian team and the footballer himself.

The 26 year old Sevilla star has played 17 league games for his current club scoring a decent 27 goals in that time. He’s also been a regular in the Croatia side achieving 61 caps since his debut in 2007.

Let’s take a look at him in action. Barcelona fans: Do you think that Rakitic is a player to take the team forward? And are you as puzzled as us about the potential sale of Cesc Fabregas?

i love Ivan, really a good addition (27 goals in 17 league matches) even if Fabregas leaves, but also a defender (look at the Belgian boys like Jan Vertoghen, or Thomas Vermalean) one of them is needed to partner with Gerard Pique.
