Massive deal on?

In news that will come as something of a surprise to some Barcelona fans, they have been strongly linked in the last couple of days with the signing of ex-Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Marca goes as far as to suggest that a £40 million deal is being a brokered and could be close to completion.

Barcelona are within striking distance of sealing a deal to bring Gonzalo Higuaín back to ‘La Liga’. Following some extremely hush-hush negotiations, Luis Enrique’s new-look Barça frontline is close to taking shape. The forward has agreed terms at the Camp Nou and now the two clubs are haggling over the fee.

But it’s hard to know for sure exactly what is going on as reports in England suggest that the deal is far from concluded and that Napoli have no intention of selling the player. The Mirror reports:

The Coppa Italia winners have categorically denied that their Argentine hitman will be heading to Camp Nou this summer

He left Real Madrid a year ago and was one of the best strikers in Serie A last season scoring 17 goals in just 31 league games for Napoli.

He’s at World Cup at the moment but this latest developments suggests that he may well be moving back from Italy at some stage soon.

As Barcelona fans will know from Higuain’s time in Spain, the Argentine is clinical finisher with great power and athleticism. We believe that, despite leaving Real Madrid for more game time, he’s a player who would undoubtedly score goals for Barcelona. The question is whether fans of either club would want to see him in the Barcelona colours.

But with the departure of Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea last week there is an opening for a creative midfielder or forward and Higuain isn’t a bad option.

Let’s see him in action in Italy. Barcelona fans: would Higuain be a good signing?
