No Brainer

Colombian winger Juan Guillermo Cuadrado has attracted much interest following a very strong 2014 World Cup, having helped his national side reach the quarter-finals where they were narrowly beaten by Brazil.

Those performances in Brazil, along with a number of impressive seasons at Italian side Fiorentina, mean that he is now one of the hottest properties of this transfer window. It is no wonder then that he is being chased by a variety of clubs.

Barcelona though are hoping to beat others to the signing of the winger. According to Marca, the club’s new manager, Luis Enrique, has personally requested the transfer as he has been a big fan of Cuadrado for several years.

The Catalan side that are not prepared to pay upwards of €40 million, the fee that Fiorentina are demanding. Therefore they are now looking to the winger to put in a transfer request with the Italian outfit or at least make it clear to them that he wants to leave Serie A for Spain.

Barcelona has already employed this tactic in their pursuit of defender Jeremy Mathieu tho summer. They were able to negotiate a lower fee after Mathieu informed the club he wished to leave.

The player’s strength and pace would make him an ideal signing for Barcelona. He we would provide a different dimension to their attacking line, being far more direct than other players in the side. He would also provide strength in depth to a squad that has already lost Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez.

His ability to play across the front line of attack in a variety of positions makes him perfect signing for Luis Enrique. His capacity to score goals and dribble past defenders, as shown at both club and national level, are also a big plus.

Barcelona are likely to face competition to land Cuadrado but, as ever, The Camp Nou is a very attractive destination for a player with ambition.
