Arsenal: Arsene in for Shock €31.2m Target – A-list talent – report

With Belgian centre half Thomas Vermaelen finally leaving Arsenal, many had assumed that Arsene Wenger would bring in a player to provide cover for his first choice pairing of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

But really ambitious managers should always be looking to improve the first eleven, and a wise move for Arsenal would be to try to sign an even better player than what they currently have.

Therefore it makes a whole lot of sense that Arsenal should reportedly be on the trail of the fantastic defender Mats Hummels. Manchester United have been strongly linked with the player for at least a few months now as they seek to plug holes in their own defence.

But latest reports suggest that Arsenal may make their own shock and blockbuster move for the Borrussia Dortmund player. The Daily Mail reckons that they are in a straight scrap with Manchester United for the services of the player. They say:

Arsenal are ready to challenge Manchester United for German centre-half Mats Hummels.

So far United have failed to agree a fee with Borussia Dortmund for the World Cup winner, with the German club wanting a sum in excess of £25million (31.2m Euros).

Arsenal, though, could come up with the cash after the sale of Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona on Saturday.

At 25 Hummels is one of the best defenders in Europe. A towering, mobile and solid stopper. But a really cultured defender also who loves to carry the ball out of defence and spray beautiful, quarter-back style passes around the park. In that sense he’s a younger version of the departed club captain.

He would represent a real coup for The Gunners as the business end of the window approaches.

Let’s see him in a action. Gunners fans: a wise spend?

what a signing he would be it would also be great to get one over on man.u.We have lost out on so many players over the years to them.So come on Arsene get the cheque book out and sign him please.

Dream on. Trust me, there is no way Mats Hummels is coming to Arsenal. Once again a website takes a spurious rumour and runs with it. Just consider, Hummels is a world cup winning central defender, playing in one of the top sides in one of the top leagues in world football, where he is one of the first names on the teamsheet, and then really ask yourself, what would he have to gain by leaving Dortmund and coming to us?
