While Arsenal will surely be looking to buy in another quality defender, after the loss of Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona this summer, you would hope that much of Arsene’s remaining transfer activity will pertain to the pursuit of a holding midfielder.

And reports today will appease the fans to a degree in this regard. Because, while he has stopped short of buying an accomplished and experienced international, there is a strong suggestion that a deal could soon be done for a coltish midfielder with great promise.

The Express reports:

Arsenal ready to wrap up deal for Chelsea and Juventus target Adrien Rabiot

ARSENAL are closing in on the signing of Paris St-Germain starlet and Chelsea target Adrien Rabiot despite interest from Juventus.

While the French club don’t appear to be particularly enthusiastic about letting the player go, they appear to accept that they can’t give him the sort of game time that he now wants if he is to stay in Paris.

And PSG’s loss would most certainly be Arsenal’s gain because Rabiot is a really excellent prospect. At just 19 he’s played at every youth international level for France and as appeared 36 times for PSG during a period which included a loan spell to Toulouse.

He’s technically brilliant and likes to keep things simple. He doesn’t score many goals but he wouldn’t be required to in the holding role in the Arsenal midfield.

While Rabiot wouldn’t be expected to walk straight into the team he could develop into a stalwart for the club in years to come.

Let’s see some clips. Arsenal fans: would this signing be enough or do you also need an accomplished midfield general?
