Arsenal: Transfer Necessities vs. Transfer Realities

Arsene-Wenger

Sort it out Arsene

Looking at the stadium and the huge residential development that surrounds The Emirates, Arsenal don’t strike you as a club that is short of cash. For the first few years after the stadium build you can understand why they would need to exercise prudence win the market.

But that’s all behind them and they are surely reaping the harvest of their efforts now. They pack 60k, plus into their stadium every week and their ticket prices are amongst the richest in football.

So why, oh why, don’t they go out and solve their on filed problems with the proper signings? Is it a lack of money, a lack of will to spend silly money or complete ignorance on the part of a manager who seems like a smart guy?

Perhaps it’s a mixture of the three. But you can see that defeats and home draws hurt Mr.Wenger as much as any fan. Yet, the under par and ill-fitting signings continue. In three movers Arsenal could challenge Chelsea and City. Here is who they should sign and who they probably will sign instead.

Who Arsenal should sign

Defence – Mats Hummels

The player has recently stressed his contentment at Dortmund. But if his present form continues it’s difficult to him not being signed for a lot of cash. £30m should do it. But, unlike United and Chelsea, Arsene Wenger seems unwilling to sign a defender for that sort of money. But, at 25, Hummels could lead that defence fro 6-7 years. He solid as a rock but has beautiful feet and loves the quarter back style pass out of defence. Also scores goals. Top talent.

Midfield – Sami Khedira

We have talked about him so often that you guys must be getting a little bored of it all. But he’s such a good player and so suited to Arsenal’s current needs. He’s not central to Real Madrid’s plans but you have little confidence that Arsenal will show the requisite cash or desire to sign him. William Carvalho, Ilkay Gundogan, Arturo Vidal, Morgan Schneiderlin or even Victor Wanyama would also do the trick.

Attack – Edinson Cavani

Danny Welbeck continues to draw praise from the Arsenal faithful. But he’s not the ruthless finisher that Arsenal need – a player who can open the scoring in a big game. Cavani is that man and appears gettable.

Who Arsenal probably will sign

DefenceThe Daily Mail today reckons that Arsenal are keen on a centre back who plays in Scotland and the Hull left back.

Wenger also wants a defender in January with Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk and Hull left-back Andy Robertson among his possible targets.

Midfield – The same source todays reports that Arsenal have opened talks with another goal scoring midfielder – Marcelo Brozovic.

Attack – Arsenal signed Danny Welbeck in the summer and there is no suggestion that he is unhappy with his current front line, despite the recent Cavani speculation.

Arsenal fans: does it feel like ground hog day at the club?

The clamour for Wenger to fill the obvious holes at CB and DM will not go away until our next manager whoever that is makes those signings. Only a fool would go on expecting Wenger to ever fill those holes when year after year he never does. In the bigger picture Wenger’s exit is the most important need of all at Arsenal. This ludicrous dictator of our club is a disgrace and once again tarnished our club’s reputation yesterday on BBC TV in an interview with a female journalist who, rightly, asked him why he didn’t take action on these points. His arrogance and disdain for this journalist proves what an unpleasant person he is when under pressure as he has many times shown. In all his years he has never addressed a journalist by name when speaking to them publicly. How revealing this is as to his bullying character. I want this deeply strange man gone from our club ASAP.
