The One That Didn’t Get Away?

Speculation is mounting that Carlos Vela could be about to re-join his former team Arsenal in North London. The player has admitted that his last spell at Arsenal was disappointing but that he has learned from those mistakes and would be able to ensure he did not repeat them.

Sky Sports report Vela saying:

“If I have to return, I will do things in a different way. What happened in the past will not be repeated.”

The player also seemed to confirm that there is a strong chance he could move to Arsenal by saying that he will be speaking with his current club’s board in the near future.

“We will try and reach an agreement in which we all win – Real, Arsenal and me. We must see what can be done,” he said. We will decide what will be my future, it is all about finding the best way to be happy.”

Vela joined Arsenal from club Guadalajara in 2005 but he spent most of his time at The Emirates on loan to a variety of clubs including Osasuna and West Brom. In total he only made 29 league appearance for Arsenal, scoring 3 goals in that time. Having failed to impress he was loaned out again, this time to Real Sociedad before joining the Spanish side permanently the following year.

However, over the last two seasons, he has scored 30 goals in La Liga leading to speculation that Arsenal may activate a release clause. They could then either add him to their squad or look to sell him on for a profit.

Arsenal are currently looking for a striker to help alleviate the pressure on Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman is the club’s only established striker and Arsene Wenger would surely want to add to a position that pundits and fans have both said needs further strengthening.

Any deal wouldn’t have to be rushed through as the Mexican isn’t part of his national team’s World Cup squad, giving The Premier League side plenty of time to complete the transfer.
