Arsenal to pay monster bucks?

From a distance it looks as if Arsenal should be concentrating on the signing of the striker in the January window. But midfielders continue to be linked to Arsenal and another spate of rumours has suggested that huge money could change hands for a long-term target.

Various reports last night suggested that Arsenal will go in for the 20 year old sensation Julian Draxler. Draxler, who has already turned out 10 times for a supremely talented Germany squad since his debut in 2012, has spoken previously of his desire to move to The Premier League.

The Express reported in October:

Asked to identify the clubs that would be of interest, Draxler said: “The big two in Spain, Real and Barcelona, ??Bayern and a few others from England, namely Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.”

The Daily Star says of the new move:

ARSENAL will step up their chase for Schalke forward Julian Draxler, 20, after discovering he has a £40million buy-out clause.

The Mirror says:

Despite the Gunners’ fairly unhappy experience with those clauses in recent months *cough* Luis Suarez *cough* there are plenty of reasons to believe that Arsene Wenger is willing to trigger the Schalke starlet’s move.

Meanwhile, The Metro said of the rumour:

Arsenal may go close to breaking their club record transfer fee by making a move for Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler.

As with so many Premier League targets, these reports suggest that a deal could be more likely in the summer. But the strength and volume of the speculation suggests that the player could well be turning out for Arsenal next season.

Draxler is one of those players who has maturity well beyond his years. He’s a fearless midfielder who can play in several positions. He has great balance and a big engine. Having scored 14 in 89 for Schalke he also has a decent eye for goal. Despite some enormously impressive displays so far you feel that this is a guy who is only going to get even better.

Let’s have a look at him in action. Arsenal fans – worth the money?
