Arsenal are reportedly pondering a move to bring in Greek defender Konstantinos Manolas in order to bolster their defensive options. According to talkSPORT, Italian media outlets are reporting that the club has made the centre back their top target and are pressing ahead with a deal to bring him to North London.
Arsenal are preparing a move for Greek centre back Konstantinos Manolas, according to sources in Italy.
At just 23 years Manolas already has some experience of playing at the top level, having made 49 appearances for current side Olympiacos, where he has become an important figure in the squad.
He also impressed for a largely disappointing Greek side at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil putting in several fine performances.
Arsene Wenger knows that getting in another central defender is a priority before the start of the season at the weekend. Former club captain Thomas Vermaelen has moved to Barcelona while Per Mertesacker has only just returned from holiday following his successful World Cup campaign with Germany.
Moreover, even though Calum Chambers has impressed in pre-season and the Community Shield at centre-half, it would be highly optimistic to think that the young defender would be able to hold the fort at the back on his own – especially considering even he doesn’t yet know his best position.
The Greek defender has been linked for a while, following the initial rumours linking Vermaelen with a move away from The Emirates.
However, the move never transpired, possibly due to the fact that Arsenal were unsure of whether Vermaelen would eventually leave the North London club.
We think that Manolas could be solid solution to Arsenal’s problem. He would be able to provide adequate cover in case of injury or suspension and even work in rotation during cup games.

i think arsenal still need more experience players to add in. They should remember that injury is part of the game, and it can hit them at any time.
