Arsenal: Target responds to frenzied transfer rumours

Alvaro Morata

Wonderkid off the menu?

Arsenal keep digging out the results don’t they? Another win at the weekend keeps The Gunners ahead of Manchester City. Many see the northern giants as nailed on certainties for the title, such is their form right now. But Arsenal simply need to concern themselves with what they are doing.

Because they’re doing it really well. Winning and playing attractive football at the same time – you can’t ask for much more than that. Well, actually, many Arsenal fans are asking for another striker too.

It’s the obvious flaw in the squad right now and many still believe that Arsenal will invest in another forward in the winter window.

One of the most often reported targets over the last couple of months has been Real Madrid wonder kid Alvaro Morata. Despite his brilliance he hasn’t been getting much game-time for the Spanish giants this season and many believed that he might go out on loan to hone his talents and perhaps even force his way into the World Cup squad for Brazil 2014.

Bu the has now been quoted as saying that he will be staying in Madrid for the rest of the season at least. The Metro reports:

Alvaro Morata has quashed any chance of a move to Arsenal by committing himself to Real Madrid for the rest of the season.

‘After many rumours about my future I can confirm that I am happy in Real.

‘The club considers that I am necessary for the team and I have decided to stay until the end of season.

‘I play for the best club in the world and I am obliged to improve my work. This is my mission. In the summer? I do not know, we will have to talk.’

We think that a loan move to Arsenal would have been really good for the development of the player. Realistically, he’s not going to get a lot of time in the first team at Madrid this season with Benzema on form and Bale and Ronaldo both able to play up top. We also believe that the Premier League improves young foreign players to give them a little bit more steel. The odd hospital challenge never hurt Cristiano Ronaldo. Would he have been quite as good a player if he hadn’t been schooled in England?

Anyhoo, let’s close the lid on Morata for this window.
