Arsenal ‘keen’ on young striking sensation – report

It’s anyone’s guess who might come in to solve the striking shortage at Arsenal in the window. With managers keeping cards close to their chests, with regards potential signings, we can be fairly sure that Arsene Wenger is trying his utmost to bring in another striker.

The high profile names that have done the rounds include Alvaro Morata and Karim Benzema but, publicly at least, Real Madrid don’t seem keen to do any business in the January window. The strangely eyebrowed, yet impossible to dislike, Carlo Ancelotti said this week:

“No-one is leaving and no-one is coming in.

Of course that situation could change but it does appear Arsenal may have to look elsewhere to bringing forward in January. One lesser known player who has been linked, today, to a move to Arsenal is the young Roma forward Mattia Destro. The 22 year old moved from Inter in 2010 for around £10m but has hardly figured this season with the ageless Francesco Totti still doing the business and ex-Arsenal man Gervinho on form.

The Metro says:

And while speculation has been rife regarding Arsenal’s interest in Porto man Jackson Martinez and Alvaro Morata of Real Madrid, Wenger is said to also be keen on 22-year-old Destro.

Italian sports programme Rai TV claim Roma are trying to fend off the Gunners’ interest in a player who has made just four appearances this term, two of which have been as a substitute.

The lad has scored 9 goals in 24 games for Roma and already has 4 caps for Italy. With Roma battling Juventus for the title you might imagine that they would want to keep this sort of quality at the club. But if a deal is feasible for Arsenal, he may be worth a punt.

Let’s see him banging in some goals in Italy. Arsenal fans – would this guy alone be enough for the title push?
